The culture of the Banks Islands is connected very strongly to the nearby
Solomon Islands. These strong connections are alive and well and we see them in the adaptations - the sharing of cultural forms. The bamboo pipe bands from the Solomon Islands visit the Banks Islands and the people share techniques and forms. Beyond the creative and musical aspect, the percussive paddles and the lashings of plastic that tie the bamboo pipes together are all found objects - the flotsam and jetsam of our global consumption patterns.
